Green Room Productions return with a big burst of sunshine, in the form of the utterly joyous musical, ‘Sunshine on Leith’, a foot-stamping, hand-clapping show featuring the songs of The Proclaimers.
The story centres on best friends and squaddies, Ally and Davy, returning home from Afghanistan to civilian life. From the anticipation and excitement of their return, they struggle to live a life outside the army and to deal with the everyday challenges of family, jobs and relationships. And Davy’s parents, Rab and Jean, find their 30-year marriage rocked by a family secret. Woven into this ultimately life-affirming tale about real lives are songs including I’m On My Way, Letter From America, the title song Sunshine on Leith and I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles).
Celebrating love in all its forms, Sunshine on Leith will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it could well make you want to get up and dance. You will leave with your heart warmed, humming the tunes of The Proclaimers as you make your way home.
“Not since Willy Russell came up with Blood Brothers has Britain produced such a perfect and perfectly unexpected marriage of music and theatre… the songs of Craig and Charlie Reid, with all their emotional honesty, singalong raucousness and political fire, are a true gift to the stage.” The Guardian.
