About this Event

Thea Anamara Perkins is an Arrernte and Kalkadoon artist and one of the rising stars of Australian art. She is part of a significant Northern Territory family including activist Charles Perkins (her grandfather), Arrernte Elder Hetti Perkins (her great-grandmother), curator Hetti Perkins (her mother) and acclaimed film director Rachel Perkins (her aunt).

Working across portraiture and landscape painting, Thea uses her family’s photographic archive as source material, attracted by the hyper-saturated glow of old photos that evoke feelings of comfort and certainty – smiling faces and happy memories. Through her art Thea questions representations of First Nations peoples in contemporary Australia, and evokes a strong sense of connection to Country.

Join Thea for an engaging presentation about her extraordinary painting practice and the inspiration she draws from her family, community and culture.

Supported through the Australian Government’s Indigenous Visual Arts Industry Support program.

Suitable for ages 18+ | $30 per person | Places are limited | Bookings essential
