With Live Score by Vincent O’callaghan. The culmination of one of the greatest careers in film history, F. W. Murnau’s Sunrise represents a milestone of film expressionism blending a story of fable-like simplicity with unparalleled visual imagination and technical ingenuity. Winner of three Oscars® for Best Actress (Gaynor), Cinematography and a never-repeated award for Unique and Artistic Picture, its influence and stature have only grown with each passing year.
The peaceful life of a naive country man (George O’Brien) is turned upside down when he falls for a cold-blooded yet seductive woman (Margaret Livingston) from the city and the pair hatch a plot to break up his otherwise idyllic marriage. Reconsidering his violent plan at the last moment, the man follows his fleeing wife (Janet Gaynor) to the city in order to beg her forgiveness.
At this special Foyle Film Festival event, Vincent O'Callaghan blends field recordings with an ambient score to reimagine Murnau’s 1927 classic film Sunrise. This sensory experience explores a world where love is lost to the dark recesses of human desire but is rekindled in the warm glow of a rising sun. Textured soundscapes will dissolve into dancing and flickering images, illuminating this poetic Song of Two Humans.
Vincent O'Callaghan has released two albums, The Mocking Reflection and Day of the Molotov on the Greek label Kinetik Records.
