Join us on International Women's Day for our second LA-Based Women Writers Event for a reading, signing, and Q&A from praised authors Rufi Thorpe, Alexandra Chang, Lauren Ling Brown, Amanda Montell, Rachel Khong, Celia Laskey, and Alanna Bennett! Moderated by our owner, Sanaz Tamjidi (Sunny). Wine, cheese, and light refreshments will be served on us.
ABOUT RUFI THORPE
Rufi Thorpe is the author of four novels, most recently Margo’s Got Money Troubles, which was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize and is soon to be an AppleTV series starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfieffer and Nicole Kidman. Her 2020 novel, The Knockout Queen, was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner award. A native of California, she currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two sons, and extremely poorly behaved dog.
ABOUT ALEXANDRA CHANG
Alexandra Chang is the author of Days of Distraction and Tomb Sweeping. She is a National Book Foundation 5 under 35 honoree. She currently lives in Camarillo, California.
ABOUT LAUREN LING BROWN
Lauren Ling Brown is the author of Reese’s Book Club Pick and USA Today Bestseller, Society of Lies. Before starting her career, Brown received a BA in English literature from Princeton University and an MFA in film production with a focus in screenwriting from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California, where she works as a film editor.
ABOUT AMANDA MONTELL
Amanda Montell is a New York Times-bestselling author and iHeart Radio Award-winning podcaster. Her nonfiction books include Cultish, Wordslut, and The Age of Magical Overthinking, an instant New York Times Bestseller and Indie Bestseller. Along with hosting the hit podcasts Sounds Like A Cult and Magical Overthinkers, Amanda’s writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, and elsewhere. Speaking about her work, she has appeared in documentary series including Netflix’s “How to Become A Cult Leader” and HBO’s “Breath of Fire.” Amanda holds a degree in linguistics from NYU and lives in Los Angeles. ABOUT RACHEL KHONG
Rachel Khong is the author of Goodbye, Vitamin, winner of the California Book Award for First Fiction, and named a Best Book of the Year by NPR; O, The Oprah Magazine; Vogue; and Esquire. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Book Review, The Cut, The Guardian, The Paris Review, and Tin House. In 2018, she founded The Ruby, a work and event space for women and nonbinary writers and artists in San Francisco’s Mission District. She lives in California.
ABOUT CELIA LASKEY
Celia Laskey is the author of Cover Story (available March 25, 2025), So Happy for You, and Under the Rainbow, a finalist for the 2020 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Her other work has appeared in Catapult, Guernica, The Minnesota Review, and elsewhere. She has an MFA from the University of New Mexico and currently lives in Los Angeles with her dog Whiskey.
ABOUT ALANNA BENNETT
Alanna Bennett is a screenwriter, author, and culture writer living in Los Angeles. Her debut novel THE EDUCATION OF KIA GREER will be released by Knopf on May 13, 2025.
