You are invited to a presentation, meet up and collaboration with SUNK SHORE on Saturday, Dec.7 at Stand 4, hosted by local artist Jeannine Bardo. Sunk Shore is an interactive and predictive art presentation that, through tours and activities, bring climate change awareness and action to local shore front communities. Bay Ridge residents aged 15 and up are invited to meet and are also invited to collaborate on events that will take place April-June 2025.
Please come talk to us about your experiences as residents along the shoreline and let's talk about your relationship to the shoreline of Bay Ridge, what you imagine your neighborhood will look like in 2050? In 2100? What role do you think climate change will play in shaping that future?
About Sunk Shore:
https://open-source-gallery.org/sunk-shore/
We are SUNK SHORE (Carolyn Hall and Clarinda Mac Low - click link above for info!). Through Sunk Shore we look at the relationships we have with our shorelines and in playful and imaginative ways, dream forward to the future of those relationships through time-traveling walking tours and other activities that bring data about climate change down to earth. We are reaching out because we are interested in collaborating with engaged community members (ages 15 and up) who live or work in Bay Ridge. We are currently working with Stand4 Gallery, on 78th St. and 4th Ave, run by artist Jeannine Bardo, on events to take place April-June 2025.
Sunk Shore makes “tours” of the future as a way to think about the climate crisis. These tours take place along local shorelines. The speculation for these “time travel” tours is based on knowledge about the places near the shoreline, and on climate change data, aiming to give these often overwhelming facts weight and impact. The events of the tours are based on research into what is expected to take place (and already happening) in that place, including rising sea levels, changing animal species, higher heat, ingenious solutions, possible social revolutions, and more, using a combination of narrative, props, and participatory activities.
