Sundowner Safari

Picture the sun setting on the African savanna. Streaks of yellow, orange and purple paint a brilliant sky behind the trees as the hot sun slips below the horizon. The air cools slightly, and the only thing left to do is to sit and reflect on the day with a crisp, refreshing gin and tonic.
This is the tradition of the Sundowner—a drink that started during British colonial rule but is still observed today in southern Africa as the traditional way to end the day.
Our safari will start at the main entrance to the Oregon Zoo. Lasting around two hours, we will explore the African Savanna, Serengeti and Elephant lands.
Please consider wearing appropriate Edwardian era safari clothes.
We can later retire to our "safari lodge" to share our stories and photos with the traditional Sundowner or other
non-alcoholic libations. If you wish to by-pass the zoo, you may go straight to the "safari lodge" around 5:30pm.
This is a potluck so please bring any Edwardian picnic food you would like to share. Libations will be provided.
As of this writing, charges for zoo entrance are $17.95. $15.95 for seniors (65 and older) Parking fees mirror downtown Portland's hourly rate of $2 per hour with a $8 daily maximum.

It’s said that Winston Churchill even once proclaimed, “The gin and tonic has saved more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire.”
