Explore the development of modern Sunderland with Stuart Miller, between the1780s-1880s with his intimate series of seminars.Seminar 2 - More the work of Art than Nature
If I was going to build Sunderland from scratch I wouldn’t have chosen the Wear! Very neglected in studying the history of our city is the work of the River Wear Commissioners, and their creation of the harbour which enabled the great industries which underpinned the economic growth of Wearside.
Local historian Stuart Miller examines six aspects of the development of modern Sunderland from the 1780s to the 1880s.
Each session will last for two hours including a break of 30 minutes to sample the coffee and cake of the Seventeen Nineteen coffee corner.
No prior knowledge is required. Simply an interest in the history of Sunderland, and a sense of humour!
