On Sunday, April 21, Baton Rouge Gallery is delighted to host a performance and conversation with Clay Parker and Jodi James. As with all Sundays@4 performances, this will be free and open to the public.Clay Parker and Jodi James have their own brand of genre-blending sonic storytelling. Before their artistic paths converged, Parker and James roamed the musical landscape as lone troubadours, each nurturing their own raw and genuine sound. The result of this musical marriage is a blackout bingo card of Americana.
Their album, “Your Very Own Dream" released this January, is at once plaintive folk and antique country, a breezy Hawaiian daydream- a bonfire ballad. Their lyrical riddles and haunting melodies have captivated audiences all across the country - they’ve run their share of rocky roads, collecting stories like souvenirs. Just as at home on stage at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival as they are in the most intimate of listening rooms, Parker and James can adjust their dynamic to fit the occasion. Fans of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris will find a similar spell cast by Parker and James whose heady baritone and crystal bell tones Rolling Stone Magazine aptly described as “mesmerizing back porch music.”
