FREE EVENT! Join us at Cape Fear Museum on Sunday, June 23rd for a conversation with Mr. Wesley O. Nixon. Mr. Nixon was born in Wilmington and still lives here in his 90th year. He has been collecting newspapers for over sixty years, chronicling both his own lived history in Wilmington as a Black child and adult, and the larger society in which that history has taken place.Joanne Durham and Marth Afetse, two local poets, will engage Mr. Nixon in conversation to discuss his life and experiences including graduation from Williston High School in 1952, military service, and more. A question-and-answer session will follow the conversation and a selection of newspapers from Mr. Nixon’s collection will also be on display during the event.
