On September 7th, fourteen eager musicians gathered in the Greyline Station common area to play old time tunes.A reminder that due to a programming change at the Old North Bar, we will use the common area of Greyline Station for our weekly slow jam gatherings going forward. We will strive to find an alternative location when events in the common area of Greyline conflict with our jam.
In D, we played:
Angeline the Baker
Spotted pony
Waiting for Nancy
Pig Ankle Rag
St Anne’s Reel
Over the Waterfall
Ashokan Farewell
Eighth of January
Mississippi Sawyer
Soldier’s Joy
Liberty
Dry and Dusty
John Short’s Tune
G
Will the Circle be Unbroken
Westphalia Waltz
Red Wing
Ook pick Waltz
Tombigbee Waltz
Golden Slippers
A modal
Kitchen Girl
Cold Frosty Morning
This weekly jam is meant to bring beginners and experienced musicians together. Consider joining the roster of mentors who will help host some of the sessions. Or think about switching from your dominant instrument (or dominant hand!). This is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and focus on technique, to ask questions, and to share tips with new players.
This is an all acoustic, all ages, and all levels SLOWish JAM to play traditional Old-Time music in 3/4 and 4/4 time. No percussion or bass please, unless you are able to keep a VERY steady rhythm (acoustic/U-basses may be amplified).
Plan to arrive early and check out Son of a Burger for lunch ahead of the jam.
