Live music, 100% estate wine and Blue Ridge Mountain view.Driftwood Radio featuring Matty Metcalfe (digital accordion/bass), Miles Pearce (guitar/vocals) and David Jacobs (drums/percussion) is fueled by a collective synergistic sensibility that erupts in original virtuosic explorations of melodic and rhythmic themes (often informed by flamenco, blues, tango and a diverse range of folk dance traditions) and wholly original, highly danceable compositions.
The trio’s chameleonic musical adaptability allows for a seamless stitching of traditional sounds (accordion and guitar) with modern, boundary-defying sensibilities (sampled horns, marimbas and bass from Metcalfe’s digital accordion). Still in place are the groove-oriented boleros, rhumbas, and sambas associated with Latin American musical idioms, but infused with Metcalfe and Pearce’s ‘Cantina-party’ melodies and Jacobs’ infectious rhythms, the re-worked songs burst with new life all their own.
Guitar-driven melodies intertwine with plaintive accordion passages and hypnotic beats which together invoke a timeless portrait of Andean hillsides, Cuban beaches, and undiscovered destinations your mind will conjure up while listening to the uniquely exotic yet instantly recognizable sounds of Driftwood Radio.
