Sunday Serene Sounds: Ivan Garford and Frances Wyatt (Two pianos)

Our second Sunday Serene Sounds concert of the year will be given by pianists Ivan Garford and Frances Wyatt, but it isn't a conventional piano duo programme as it will be played on two different pianos: the Steinway C piano that is often played at our concerts is one; the other is the Blüthner piano that was bequeathed to St John's.
Ivan and Frances will be bringing us music by Richard Rodney Bennett, John Adams, and Sergei Rachmaninov.
We are dependent on your donations to keep running these concerts, and the suggested donation amount is £8, but please don’t worry if that’s more than you can afford.
There won’t be a full café at this concert, but tea, coffee and cold drinks will be available for twenty minutes before and after, and any profits from that will also go towards future concerts.
Programme:
Bennett – Lilliburlero Variations
Adams – Hallelujah Junction
Rachmaninov – Symphonic Dances
About Ivan and Frances:
Ivan and Frances have been working together as a two-piano duo since playing in a show together in 2022. Sharing a love of Rachmaninov, they have been widening their repertoire recently to include some challenging minimalist music.
Ivan studied music at Goldsmiths’ College and the Royal Academy of Music. He has enjoyed a varied career as a performer, musical director and teacher. Ivan was musical director for the Operatic Societies at March and Wisbech throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Concurrently, he developed a strong interest in jazz piano and improvisation, and has accompanied performers such as Don Rendell, Peter King and Alan Barnes on their visits to the region. As a double bass player, he is regularly to be found in the ranks of regional orchestras. Upcoming projects include a Summer appearance in Stamford with Art Blakey Tribute Band – Buhaina!
From a family of musicians, Frances feels very lucky to have grown up in an environment in which sharing the love of music was part of every-day life. Frances studied the piano at the Royal College of Music. Her playing and teaching career encompasses a wide variety of music genres, ranging from solo work and chamber music to playing in shows and for ballet schools. She teaches both piano and flute. Recent concert performances include a performance of Beethoven Piano Concerto No.1.
