Sunday School September 11 - November 27

Digging Deeper | 1 Peter | Room 201 Patti Hughey
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to His great mercy, has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:3-5 NASB
Are you looking for a class that digs deep into the meaning of a chapter of Scripture? Are you looking for other Christians who desire to learn together? This is the class for you. This fall, you will read, study, and discuss 1 Peter together.

Our Story | The History of the Church of God & Pennway | Room 202 Joshua Brandt
The journey of the Church of God began long before we were born. The social situations, the reaction to the times, and a move of Holy Spirit birthed our church. In order to fully understand who we are, it is wise to know our history and our story. Join us this fall as we study the roots of our Movement seeking to understand the journey and history which leads us to our unique place in the larger Church. We will seek to understand our heritage as a Holiness Church and how this can prepare us to impact the future. We will also see how the story of Pennway Church of God fits within this larger story.

Hearing God | Room 204 Sandy Kuepfer
Being close to God means communicating with him―telling him what is on our hearts in prayer and hearing, and understanding what he is saying to us. But how do we hear God's voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear?
The key, says the author of Hearing God, Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our relationship with our Creator. In this beloved classic, you'll gain rich spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with him in the work of his kingdom.

The Good & Beautiful Community (Formerly the Open Bible Class) | Room 205 Tom Bryde & Jerry Graham
In his book The Good and Beautiful God, James Bryan Smith helps us know how to live in relationship with others as apprentices of Jesus. "Apprentices of Jesus are not part-time do-gooders," he writes. "They live in continuous contact with the kingdom of God and are constantly men and women in whom Christ dwells. They do not sometimes tell the truth, sometimes live sacrificially, or sometimes forgive. There are myriad opportunities for us to impact the world in which we live." Yet, we've often got it wrong, tending to emphasize personal faith over social justice or vice versa. In this class, you will learn how to bring spiritual formation and community engagement together. You will learn spiritual practices that root new, authentic narratives about God and the world in our souls.
