We are excited to welcome Steph Plant back to the UUCC for a special Song Circle Service. Congregants can expect simple songs that invite play, depth and levity - no experience or confidence in singing necessary. Steph has years of experience in leading groups in song with an open heart, mind and soul. A little about Steph and her musical history:
"She describes her music as "soulful acoustic" that is more spiritual than folk music. She plays guitar, banjo, and mountain dulcimer but is primarily a vocalist.
"I use a lot of pure tone frequency, like a sound healing experience with the audience," Plant said. "Sometimes it's overt and sometimes covert, but it can be felt. It's deeply emotive and moving."
For the last 15 years, Plant has been part of The Leonas, a duo she formed with Sarah Vie. As a Montessori teacher, Plant has performed children's music and self-published a children's book. She also attended Greenville College, now known as Greenville University.
Plant, 37, grew up in a musical family in which her parents were missionaries with a music ministry in Egypt. Her mother worked with Arabic Christian music artists and her father was a filmmaker who created related music videos.
Plant and her sister were backup singers at home and church, for projects and performances for artists with whom their mother worked. With her family, Plant toured throughout the Middle East, including Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, performing a variety of different kinds of music.
"The story of our lives gets woven into everything we do," said Plant."
