Ah, that sense of satisfaction when you've tinkered with a wee broken thing and brought it back to life - #NailedIt! This month, we've invited Shirley Eborn to share her story of making clothes & costumes leading to her increased involvement with sustainable fashion through volunteering with Brighton Repair Café.There are several Repair Cafés in Brighton, where amazing teams repair clothing, paperback books, small electrical goods, computers and more. Come hear about the circular economy at grassroots level on our doorstep :)
Money raised at this month's assembly will go to locally-based charity, East Sussex Vision Support*. They provide advice, care, comfort, signposting, and support to increase the independence, confidence and well-being of blind and partially sighted people. They also work to promote the understanding of sight loss in local communities.
Beyond that, our regular round of singing, poetry, food bank**, tea (bring your keep-cup!), cake***, and friendly chit-chat with old friends and new****, to keep our spirits up and community warm :) Click the link in bio or see our Insta/website for more details!
Aaaannnd… honest moment - we love putting on sunday assembly, but we really could use a few extra heads, hearts, and hands (preferably still attached to willing volunteers) to help us keep this community going.

*money raised is usually split 50:50 between the charity and Sunday Assembly (for running costs, hall hire, tea, etc) but we're running low on funds, so until we have a less grumpy bank manager, the 50:50 split will be after we've covered costs (venue hire, tea, etc)
** tins of food, dry packet food, toiletries, and so on to be distributed to Brighton food banks by us at Sunday Assembly :)
*** and if you're a keen baker - bring cake/brownies/your great bake-off practice pieces!
**** hey, tell your friends and bring them along too - more people = more community = more singing and good times :)
***** We do get carried away with asterisks, hey? Have a free fact: Super glue was accidentally created by Dr. Harry Coover in 1942, whilst trying to create a clear plastic for gunsights. He was annoyed by how relentlessly sticky this new substance was and didn’t discover how useful it was until years later!
