About The UW Horn Choir: The UW Horn Choir was founded over 50 years ago by Doug Hill, now the Professor Emeritus of Horn. The ensemble performs every December in the Chazen Museum of Art, programming a variety of music ranging from Renaissance vocal settings to contemporary movie scores to original works for multiple horns. In the spring semester, the horn choir regroups as Twisted Metal, Wisconsin’s premier (and only) all French horn rock band. Every April, Twisted Metal performs rock and roll arrangements created by the students in the group. In 2022, Twisted Metal will perform for the first time in the new Hamel Music Center. Daniel Grabois took over as Director of the ensemble (and as horn professor) in 2011 upon the retirement of Professor Hill. The horn choir provides an opportunity for students not only to refine their horn playing and their ensemble skills, but to hang out together, support each other, have a great time, and form tight social bonds. With late afternoon rehearsals on Fridays, horn choir rehearsals create a beautiful close to every full week packed with musical activity for students and director alike.
