Brett Piva
Brett Piva is a Newcastle based painter, sculptor, installation artist and curator.
Piva’s work intersects two worlds; the natural landscape of the Australian bush and the manufactured surfaces of urbanised space. Diverse organic markings sourced from sojourns in remote environments are replicated on manmade surfaces; gnarling curls of bark against the perfection of cut glass, or the lines of leaves on brick and mortar.
Formally trained in commercial arts before diverging into contemporary landscape and abstraction, Piva’s work has been exhibited in Japan, New York, Chicago, London and Australia.
Sunbiirds
When we look to the natural world, there is beauty both immovable and fleeting. And it’s within this constant tension – the synergy between the permanent and momentary – where Sunbiirds soar and roost.
With its floating line-up, Sunbiirds is principally a sonic and exploratory collaboration between the ever-searching, ever-expanding mind of Lachlan Morris and Noah Church.
There’s no rehearsals. Their guerilla improvised instrumental performances can – and do – happen anywhere there’s electricity. Songs are often recorded but never performed twice.
These self-described “naturescapes” flow and build before your eyes, often woven with samples recorded from the natural world.
