Join us for the Sydney debut of Sun Arc. Featuring Lachlan Dale on Afghan rabab, and Timothy Johannessen on frame drum, the duo perform minimalist compositions inspired by chamber music, Afghan classical and their own diverse musical backgrounds.
Through bands like Black Aleph and Hashshashin, Lachlan has sought to explore drone, polyrhythms and cinematic music. More recently, Lachlan has developed Afghan folk and classical rabab repertoire through performances with Arya Ensemble.
Timothy Johannessen performed traditional Persian music with Mehr Ensemble for a number of years. He cites his daf teacher, Arash Zanganeh, as an inspiration alongside names like Azeri spiritual musician Alim Qasimov, Turkish masters Arif Saag and Eroglu, alongside heavy, avant-garde and classical influences.
While the duo debuted at Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast earlier this year, this will be their first Sydney performance.
