About this Event

Technology is reshaping every aspect of modern life, in many cases evolving more rapidly than law and policy. The Georgetown Law Institute for Technology Law & Policy invites you to bring your voice to campus for a Summit on Emerging Technology Policy, a two-day event convening academics, policymakers, practitioners, and students to discuss where we are, what comes next, and how to center accountability, inclusion, and justice in the creation of policies to address emerging technologies.

Wednesday, September 27: We will open with a fireside chat with keynote speaker and Georgetown University Law Center alumna Halimah Delaine Prado (L ’00), General Counsel of Google. An opening reception will follow.

Thursday, September 28: A full day of programming will begin with breakfast celebrating women in tech, featuring a panel on women in space policy with speakers from NASA, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Federal Communications Commission, the U.S. Department of State, Capitol Hill, and Georgetown University’s Tech & Society Initiative.

Georgetown University Law Center Board of Visitors member and GULC alumna Lauren Van Wazer (L ’90), Vice President of Global Public Policy for Akamai Technologies, will lead a discussion on the future of data privacy and cybersecurity policies, followed by lightning talks on new applications and regulatory trends, featuring GULC alumni.

At lunch, we’ll remind the Georgetown community that “you can’t spell ‘summit’ without U” in a fast-paced, interactive, collaborative brainstorming session with students, fellows, and other summit attendees. Be part of the solution!

In the afternoon, we’ll get serious about AI with a discussion among faculty, practitioners, industry, and civil society representatives, followed by real talk with tech executives and general counsels on what keeps them up at night, and a concluding session on how to keep up with the regulatory shifts prompted by old statutes and new judicial constraints.
