• July 12: The Houston Symphony brings American masterworks to Miller! Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess concert suite, Catfish Row, brings the sounds of jazz and jubilee to the concert stage. Florence Price’s turbulent third symphony caps off this all-American program with the full force of the orchestra and guest conductor Kellen Gray.
• July 13: Violinist Blake Pouliot joins the Houston Symphony to dazzle in Tchaikovsky’s exuberant Violin Concerto. Decried by critics at its premiere, the concerto has become one of the most cherished pieces of the orchestral repertoire. Tchaikovsky’s towering Fifth Symphony encompasses the full range of the human condition. From its quiet and unsettled opening to its ecstatic finale, this work carries the audience along on a tumultuous journey from darkness to light.
• July 19: Annelle K. Gregory performs alongside the Houston Symphony for Alexander Glazunov’s lush and bittersweet violin concerto. Elgar’s Enigma Variations are a touching tribute to the composer’s closest friends and loved ones. The tender expression of the orchestra reminds us why it is one of the most beloved pieces in all of Western classical music.
• July 20: The Houston Symphony’s own Charles Seo shines in Haydn’s first cello concerto. Unearthed in 1961 after vanishing for nearly two centuries, the elegance of this sunny concerto is ideal for the outdoor setting of Miller Theater. The same could be said for the inspired optimism of Dvořák’s Eight Symphony, a work that delights audiences with its buoyancy and pastural serenity. This concert also features a rare performance of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s deeply passionate Ballade in A minor, all under the baton of special guest conductor Dionysis Grammenos.

And meet the next generation of classical virtuosos as your Houston Symphony performs alongside an exciting slate of rising star guest soloists and acclaimed up-and-coming conductors!
The Houston Symphony serves Houston through extraordinary artistry, diverse programming, and robust education and community engagement. Their goal is to be America’s most relevant and accessible top-ten orchestra. The values they established stress the importance of serving the most diverse city in the nation through inclusivity at every level of the organization.
