Summer Solstice Radiate and Recharge workshop

Summer is the season of abundance when things come into maturity as life is in full bloom and filled with joy. The Solstice marks the longest day of the year and this year falls on 21 June. Celebrated since ancient times it is when the sun is at its most powerful and is the most yang time of year. As well as a time of abundance it is a time for reflection. At the Solstice the sun appears to stand still before it changes direction. We too stand still pause and take time to reflect – taking stock and renewing intentions.


Workshop description

Blending pranayama (breathing) practices and hatha yoga asana (postures) to stimulate our agni (or inner fire in the Ayurvedic tradition) we will gently create heat in the body through a slow flow to build strength. Agni is associated with transformation – physically and spiritually transforming food into energy ideas into actions and offerings into the smoke that drifted up towards the gods.

Postures will focus on our manipura (solar plexus) chakra that governs our ability to get things done to digest our food and experiences our ego will and ambition.

This will be balanced with some heart opening yin yoga postures to culminate our practice balancing out the heat of summer and supporting us to navigate the season with ease. Through longer held postures yin seeks to lubricate and heal our connective tissues rejuvenating energy in the body and move towards equanimity in the subtle and emotional body.We will end with a meditation to bring us into stillness and to support kindness towards ourselves and others.All of this with a soundtrack to get you into the zone and seasonally appropriate essential oils to aid your sensory experience.


Open to all. No previous experience required.

Please bring a water bottle. You can use the studio equipment or bring your own mat if you prefer.


Kanwal Ahluwalia: Yogabliss

Kanwal has been practising yoga for over 20 years and teaching since 2010. Her teaching style is characterised by warmth intuition and clear communication encouraging students to go beyond the physical postures of yoga and delve into the philosophy that underlies it.
