In 2024, Red Deer Arts Council is celebrating 50 years serving the community with a variety of arts and culture activities. The RDAC50 Committee is excited to present our first ever "Summer Solstice Plein Air Painting Event: Paint, Eat, Drum, and Connect" to be held at Kerry Wood Nature Centre and Gaetz Lake Sanctuary on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The Gaetz Lakes Sanctuary is also turning 100 years old this year! This will be an all-day event to feature plein-air artists within the Sanctuary, an Art Show and Sale, followed by a BBQ supper and an evening of drumming by a campfire!

Planning for the Day:
• Please bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a refillable water bottle and your camp chair with you for the day and evening activities.
• Washrooms are available inside Kerry Wood Nature Centre throughout the full event. If you wish to paint outside the sanctuary, there are also outhouses in McKenzie Trails Recreation Park.
• We have two bag lunch options for purchase available to add on to your registration – one offering a ham & cheese sandwich, the other an egg salad sandwich. Both also include fruit, veggies, a cookie, and a bottle of water (with coffee & hot water available in the Nature Centre, too.)
• If you have dietary restrictions, we recommend bringing your own food to ensure no concerns. Foods will be nut free. For the BBQ dinner, we will have gluten free and vegetarian options for hot dogs.
NOTE: To protect wildlife, no dogs, motorized equipment, or bikes are permitted in the Gaetz Lake Sanctuary. This is a migratory bird sanctuary and a refuge for native plants and animals. No alcohol allowed.
