About this Event
Seaweed Pressing at The Workshop
Come and join us for an inspirational, seaweed packed session learning the unique art of seaweed pressing. Discover a whole new world of plants and animals, led by Rosie Walton, she will have you hooked in no time.
Have you ever wondered what you can do with the beautiful seaweed you find at the beach? Join our Seaweed Pressing Workshop and learn how to turn your beach finds into unique pieces of art!
During this hands-on workshop, we will guide you through the process of pressing and preserving seaweed. You'll learn various techniques and tricks to create stunning pressed seaweed specimens.
Whether you're a beginner or have some experience in botanical art, this workshop is suitable for everyone.
We will meet at The Workshop where we will touch upon the incredibleness that is seaweed in the form of a mini biology lesson, as well as a bit of a facinating history too. It has something to do with taking off your corset!
You will then enjoy a little walk to our beautiful beach in Cullercoats where you will select seaweeds to press. You will be guided on how to harvest sustainably so no harm comes to any seaweed.
Back at The Workshop for refreshments and a bite to eat (bring a packed lunch) where we will demonstrate how to press your seaweed, showing you all the tips and tricks that will make them look their best, preserving them in time forever.
You will also be instructed on how to continue the pressing process when you take your beauties home in your very own handmade seaweed press, by The Workshop
We will endeavour to go out in whatever weather so suitable clothing and footwear is important. The tide will be just coming in so there will be some slippery rocks to walk on if you want to explore rockpools.
