About this Event
The Great Hudson River Fish Count is an annual event sponsored by the DEC's Hudson River Estuary Program and the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. Come visit organizations all along the Hudson River and New York Harbor work together at riverfront sites to collect, count, and catalog fish species. During the fish count, visitors can help collect fish using seine nets, minnow traps, or rods and reels! Participants may watch from shore or jump into available waterproof waders and help pull in the net.
Pre-registration for the event is required. Management reserves the right to cap participation in accordance with current COVID-19 outdoor safety guidelines.
Know Before You Go
For everyone's safety, we are asking all participants to observe the following guidelines:
- Please wear a mask if you are unvaccinated, or if it makes you feel more comfortable
- All individuals should maintain social distancing of six feet during programming, regardless of vaccination status
- Please wear a mask if social distancing cannot be maintained
- Wash your hands before attending a program
- Stay home if you are sick
Additionally, we encourage participants to bring their own hand sanitizer and water bottles to our programs.
