This program is best suited for ages 7 and up due to some of the materials we will be handiing.
Monday 6/24 - The Magic of Dye
A new spin on tie-dye using the power of melting ice to create unique and gorgeous patterns. Students will make their own tapestry square that will be brought home at the end of the week. (Students may bring their own T-shirts from home to dye as well. They need to be at least 50% cotton.)
Tuesday 6/25 - Rise Up and Resin
Students will create a polymer that becomes plastic. Students will learn to mix in ratios and create gorgeous dimensional art using micas, pigments, and alcohol inks. Pieces created will be brought home on Friday due to their curing time.
Wednesday 6/26 - So What is Solar
Students will make stunning cyanotype shadow pictures using the power of the sun (or a UV flashlight if the day is overcast). Afterward, they will learn how rainbows are created in a process known as "thin film interference" with their own pictures and be able to applty that understanding to slick oil surfaces on roads and bodies of water. Pieces created that day can be brought home if dry.
Thursday 6/27 - Organic Design
Students will make their own marbled paper using special watercolor paints and learn design techniques to make their papers uniquely their own. Students will also try their hand at paint pouring a canvas and create another stunning work of art.
Friday 6/28 - Tesselation Station
Students will be introduced to M.C. Escher and try a variety of shapes to make tesellations. There will be puzzles and paper shapes to explore before they make their own shapes to create their own tesselations to fill a grid square. All designs will be taken home that day asd well as any projects that needed to dry oe cure over the course of the week.
