Summer Focus Courses
Because the beach is for the weekend.
New in 2026, our summer short courses give you the time, space and feedback to improve your improv skills, plus the opportunity to meet and improvise with members of the AndAlso community from other classes and nights of the week. These five-week courses sit outside our core syllabus, allowing you to build skills you can use in many different improv and performance contexts. Each course finishes with an informal showcase to an audience of family and friends.
You can expect focused sessions, plenty of stage time, and clear, practical feedback. As well as all the laughter guaranteed from an evening with AndAlso improv.

Summer Focus: Scene into Song with Jen Rowe & Alan Grice on keys.
To do musical improv, you need both ‘music’ and ‘improv’.
This course focuses on the core building blocks of improvised scenes into songs, working on both the musical side and the improv side. Over five weeks, you’ll work on rhyme, phrasing and structure, but also how songs emerge from scenes and how to sing as your character, no matter who they are.
During this five-week course, you’ll practise making clear choices and holding on to them, working with your partner and the rest of the ensemble to create the perfect song for your scene. Plus, you’ll also work on harmony and rhythm, giving you musical tools to feel more confident in the choices you are making.
This course is perfect for those who have done some musical improv and want to more fully understand how it works, building a flexible set of skills that will help in all areas of improv, with or without music.
For improvisers who have completed our Intro to Musical Improv or equivalent. You will be expected to have experience with improvised songs.
This course finishes with a voluntary end-of-term showcase directed by your teacher, Jen Rowe, at the Lantern Theatre on Tuesday, 25th August.
