Summer Filmmaker Bootcamp for Young Artists (12 - 17yrs old) - 3 weeks

This three-week camp is a crash-course in all skills related to creating media content and telling great stories.  Young artists will learn how to write short scripts, operate professional cameras, direct actors, and edit a scene. Students will learn from accomplished filmmakers, writers, and teachers from all over the world and take the first steps on their journey to Hollywood.  PARTICIPANTS WILL GRADUATE WITH TWO SHORT FILMS.

Open to all students aged 12-17!  

Daily Schedule

Classes run from10 am to 4 pm Monday to Friday (June 20th - July 8th). Parents can drop off students at 9 am and pick up before 6 pm.  Complimentary healthy breakfast and lunch included.

All professors are experienced university professors or top pros in their fields.

There will be no class on 4th of July.

This class will focus on education, creation, hand on training, collaboration, and having fun!

Students will have plenty of time to gain experience with state-of-the-art equipment and editing software, and become fluent in the language of film. 

All equipment and materials are included.

Faculty List

Adrian M. Garcia is a production and screenwriting professor at Miami Dade College, and he has taught generations of students a new way of seeing. An award-winning Cuban-American filmmaker with a graduate degree from the University of Miami, Professor Garcia's ongoing “Women Above the Line” lecture series has brought his students face-to-face with Academy Award nominees and with trailblazing women filmmakers—some of the leading storytellers of our time. He has taught pioneering classes to incarcerated populations, and his student's films have gone on to win acclaim throughout the country and world.

Daniel Capote graduate of the prestigious The Juilliard School Drama Division. While at Juilliard, he appeared in numerous productions, including THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT, TRUST, ROMEO AND JULIET, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, MEASURE FOR MEASURE, and WILLIAMS IN TRANSIT.

Daniel has recently appeared in the critically acclaimed, and award-winning production of THE CARETAKER with Zoetic Stage, as well as, the world-premiere production of FINDING MONA LISA by Michael McKeever. He is also known for recurring as "Scientist Peter" on the hit Nickelodeon series I AM FRANKIE.

Andres Di Bono is an award-winning film editor and director who has more than 20 years of editing experience. Throughout his career, Andres has edited a great deal of narrative short and feature films. He's worked for studios such as Disney, Universal & Warner Brothers, personalities such as John Legend, Elton John & Andy Garcia and has been editing for multiple top brands such as Nissan, IBM, & Porsche.

Andres has graduated as a Director from a film program in Los Angeles. Following this creative path, he has been writing and directing short films of various scales and genres some of which are now streaming on Amazon and other platforms. He has also been continuously editing various critically acclaimed tv series and shows.

Emma Cuba

Emma Cuba is a Cuban-Swedish actor, writer, and director born and raised in Miami, Fl. Emma is an alumna of New World School of the Arts and the recipient of Miami Dade’s Wolfson Leadership Award. Having graduated with a BFA in Theatre Arts with a film focus, she was able to explore her passions while
attending Boston University’s School of Theatre. These foundations led her to write, produce and act in various projects both abroad and in Miami. She has just finished her short film Mango City, which she wrote, directed, and produced in partnership with Skinnymoon Studios, an all-female production company she co-founded, based in Miami. Emma recently returned from the Nostos Screenwriting residency in Italy, mentored by BAFTA and Sundance nominated filmmaker, Tina Gharavi, where she wrote her next feature film. Currently, she teaches filmmaking and art courses throughout Miami. Previously, she has worked with Miami New Drama alongside Michel Hausmann and Moises Kaufman helping bring their artistic projects to life, and collaborated with CBS, where she had the honor of interviewing Oprah Winfrey.

We are not-for-profit collective for filmmakers and actors that promotes filmmaking and film appreciation across South Florida. Our events such as the Interactive Media Festival and the I'm Not Gonna Move to L.A. monthly film festival have received national media attention and attract artists and attendees from cities across the world. Our specific goals include bringing more film jobs to Florida, supporting interactive content creators, and fighting for gender parity in filmmaking. We are proud to be a cornerstone of the local film community.

The Downtown Media Center

This camp will be located at and around FilmGate's Downtown Media Center, a multimedia co-working space inside the historic Huntington Building. Classes will be held in the beating heart of Miami, walking distance from the Silverspot Cinema, Mana Contemporary, Avant Gallery, and Bayside Market. 

Transportation

-If driving to the Downtown Media Center, please park valet at the PK1 200 SE 2nd St. Tell the attendant you are with FilmGate, and bring us your ticket for validation. With validation, parking is just $5 for every 5-hour period.

For dropoff, pull into the parking lot next to the Downtown Media Center (153 NE 2nd Ave). Please avoid parking in this lot or stalling for too long, because attendants may ticket you.

For Metro transit, ride to Government Center station and then take the Brickell Loop to the Knight Center station, located inside the Miami Tower. Take the escalator downstairs, cross SE 2nd St, and walk through the parking lot to arrive just next to the Downtown Media Center.
