Are you curious about other World Religions and how they relate to Christianity? Our Summer EnLightenment series based on Barbara Brown-Taylor’s book, “Holy Envy – Finding God in the Faith of Others” continues as we join her and some of her students on their field trip to the historic Masjid Al-Islam in Atlanta for Friday prayers. This happens hot on the heels of the 9/11 devastation of the World Trade Center Towers in Manhattan, so we can imagine the tension in the air.
And yet, as they settled into the experience, the imam’s words resonated deeply with one of the central hallmarks of the Christian faith, calling for a return to compassion, to peace, to trust in God, to renewed commitment to resist violence. As we open ourselves to glimpsing the world through Muslim eyes, what other points of connection might we find between the Christian and Muslim faith traditions?
This series will take place on August 3, August 10, August 17, and August 24 during our regular Sunday Worship services at 10:15 am at James Bay United Church.
