Indian Point Farm camp programs can be tailored to accommodate riders of all ages, levels, and abilities. Safety is emphasized at all times while simultaneously building a solid foundation in good horsemanship. We believe that there is more to horses than just riding them. We feel it is very important for riders to learn all the basics of caring for, grooming, and tacking their own horse. While lesson plans are adjustable, the first day of camp is spent orienting students to our facility, the horses they will be riding, and safety. Students are also introduced to the tack they will be using, as well as the basics of grooming and tacking that is necessary prior to their first ride. We take plenty of time to ensure that students feel safe and confident with their horse, both on the ground and when riding. The remainder of the week is spent exploring all that the equestrian world has to offer. Students will learn about horse safety, equine nutrition, field management, horse health, grooming, basic first aid, anatomy, overall stable management, different breeds, and investigate the different disciplines offered within the equestrian community. Students will also learn about various clubs and showing counsels within the Hampton Roads Community. In addition to education on the ground, students will have plenty of opportunities to get in the saddle. Indian Point Farm offers daily riding that includes lessons, trails, and games. Students will also be engaged in various arts and crafts activities, offering a barn-made memento of the experience. We look forward to seeing you!
