Come celebrate an Autumn Afternoon of Fiddle Music in this intimate house concert with Sumaia Jackson and Colin Cotter in Westside Santa Cruz. Address given with paid reservation. Sumaia Jackson (5-string fiddle) and Colin Cotter (guitar, vox), share original fiddle tunes and songs along with music from the Americana & Celtic traditions. The duo moves masterfully from blazing fiddle tunes to beautiful slow songs and back again. Throw in sweet harmony vocals, and tightly crafted arrangements, and you will see, and hear, why they are so dynamic live. Their style has been called: “California Celtic at its best- original, traditional, and re-envisioned contemporary fiddle tunes and songs, with a deep groove and much soul.”
Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Jackson was awarded a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music in the American Roots Music department. Jackson has toured the globe with Jayme Stone’s Folklife and Laura Cortese & the Dance Cards—playing such venues as the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress, Celtic Connections, just to name a few. She has been a member of the Real Vocal String Quartet. Her debut fiddle record, “Möbius Trip”, featuring Colin, on May 1st, 2019.
Colin Cotter is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, recording artist, from the San Francisco Bay Area. He has performed throughout the US, as well as touring internationally in Canada, Ireland, and Spain. He has been an instructor at many of the top folk music camps in the country.
In addition to performing with Sumaia, Colin is exploring edgy, electro-acoustic music with fiddler Ryan McKasson in a project they call Old Growth Graveyard, as well as performing with Joe Craven & Frisky!
In addition to being a fine fiddler and singer, Colin is a self-taught guitarist, having taken to the instrument both for the practical purpose of accompanying himself singing and for providing perfect accompaniment for fellow fiddlers. His broad musical expertise is evident in abundance on the numerous recordings he has released over the years.
