SUMÉ: Sound of a Revolution, a Greenlandic Film Screening

Come join us at Cove Street Arts for a special screening of the iconic Greenlandic film, SUMÉ: Sound of a Revolution. This inspiring documentary follows the Greenlandic rock band Sumé, whose music helped ignite Greenland’s movement toward self-governance in the 1970s.

Directed by Inuk Silis Høegh, the film tells the story of how Sumé’s revolutionary songs became a powerful cultural and political force, influencing Greenland’s independence from Danish colonial rule.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with director Inuk Silis Høegh and Sumé’s lead singer, Per Berthelsen, moderated by Jan Piribeck from the University of Southern Maine.

Light refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public!

------------------------------

SUMÉ is presented in cooperation with the University of Southern Maine's North Atlantic Institute (MNAI), The Parsonage Gallery, the New England Ocean Cluster, the Maine International Trade Center, and the World Affairs Council of Maine.

The screening is part of a series of public programs hosted by MNAI and organized through Maine-Greenland Collaborations, an interdisciplinary research project studying the impacts of ecological change on rural and coastal communities in Maine and Greenland.
