Hear from award-winning Eritrean-Ethiopian-British novelist Sulaiman Addonia as he reflects on his revelatory new novel 'The Seers'
About this Event

We are delighted to welcome award-winning Eritrean-Ethiopian-British novelist Sulaiman Addonia to Birmingham this summer as part of his UK tour reflecting on his revelatory & human exploration of the sexual & emotional lives of refugees, The Seers.

Drawing upon his own experiences as a child refugee, Sulaiman opens the pages of this brand-new novel from experimental fiction pioneers Prototype, following in the feet of a homeless Eritrean refugee during their first weeks in the UK. Discussing the books powerful & empowering perspectives on sexuality, gender-fluidity & trans experience, Sulaiman will also show us how intimacy & inner life is just as essential to immigrant stories as that of borders, land & nationality.

The tour is generously supported by Flip Through Flanders, presented by @flandersliterature

Sulaiman Addonia is an Eritrean-Ethiopian-British novelist. He spent his early life in a refugee camp in Sudan, and his early teens in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He arrived in London as an underage unaccompanied refugee without a word of English and went on to earn an MA in Development Studies from SOAS and a BSc in Economics from UCL. His previous novels include ‘The Consequences of Love’ & ‘Silence is My Mother Tongue’

This is one of our ‘Borderless’ events, foregrounding world literature & literature in translation & welcoming authors from across the globe to discuss their work, often alongside their translators themselves.

Tickets for the event are free, but we kindly ask that you place a reservation here on our Eventbrite page.
