CONTENT DESCRIPTION: Join us for our next Continuing Education event, “Suicide Assessment, Treatment, & Management in Behavioral Health Practice.” This training event will be offered live in person only.
This training is designed to provide education in regard to the assessment, treatment, and management of suicidality for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors and Licensed Professional Counselor Associates. It is intended to meet criteria for continuing education credit for LPCAs and LPCCs per 201 KAR 36:030, Section 2(1), for which CE approval application has been made. Furthermore, the training will cover elements of the internationally acknowledged suicide recognition and intervention SafeTALK program. SafeTALK is Livingworks program that teaches members of the community to recognize persons with thoughts of suicide and to connect them to suicide intervention resources.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
As a result of this training, participants will be able to:
Define suicide and discuss the importance of suicide screening/assessment. Discuss the impact the Pandemic has had on suicide. Identify evidence-based and/or best practice suicide screening and assessment instruments commonly utilized in behavioral health treatment.
Demonstrate ability to understand and incorporate evidence-based clinical care practice guidelines utilized in behavioral health treatment of suicidal individuals or individuals deemed “at-risk” of suicidal behaviors.
Explain how to manage treatment of individuals with suicidal risk and the importance of designing a collaborative safety plan.
Describe special populations whose members may be at heightened risk and best practice considerations for clinical treatment thereof for those individuals.
Recognize the signs that someone may be thinking of suicide. Participants will be able to identify the things that they may SEE, HEAR, SENSE or LEARN from an individual that indicates they may have thoughts of suicide.
Demonstrate via verbalization and role play an understanding and basic competency in the TALK steps utilized to recognize, acknowledge and intervene in situations involving persons with thoughts of suicide. Participants will be able to watch scripted videos and then participate in active role play scenarios in which they work through the SafeTALK steps.
Verbalize and understanding of the ways in which we MISS, DISMISS and AVOID the invitations to intervene of those with thoughts of suicide.
