On average one person dies by suicide every 5 days in Cumbria. But suicides are preventable and we can all learn life saving skills.

Every Life Matters is offering free Suicide Alertness Bitesize training sessions iWorkington

These one-hour sessions are designed for community members to gain confidence in discussing suicide and supporting those in need.

Learning Outcomes:

Be aware of the local and national context of suicide
Be aware of the importance of suicide alertness within the community
Understand the role we can play in preventing suicide
Be aware of some of the signs that someone may be having thoughts of suicide
Understand the importance of asking directly about thoughts of suicide
Be aware of resources and support available locally and nationally

Around 1 in 4 of us will have thoughts of suicide during our lifetime. It is a common response to stressful and overwhelming life events. We believe that Suicide prevention is everyone’s business. That it is family, friends, colleagues, neighbours and those closest to us that are most able to understand when someone is at risk of suicide, and to support that person to take the first steps towards getting help.

This session is delivered in person by our dedicated and experienced suicide prevention trainers. Participants also receive a PDF course worksheet and a post course handbook.
