Born in Ottawa and forged musically in Austin, Texas, Foley began performing professionally at just 16 and quickly became a standout on the legendary Antone’s label. Since her 1992 debut Young Girl Blues, she has toured internationally and shared stages with icons including B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Billy F Gibbons. Her accolades speak volumes: five consecutive Blues Music Awards for Traditional Blues Female Artist (2020–2025), a JUNO Award, and the 2024 Maple Blues Lifetime Achievement Award. As Goldmine Magazine put it, “Foley’s talent is limitless—she’s Segovia, Yngwie, Leadbelly, Charley Patton and Robert Johnson all rolled into one.”
More than a virtuoso performer, Foley is also a scholar and torchbearer for guitar history. She holds a PhD in Musicology and will release her first book, Guitar Women, in 2026, continuing her mission to reclaim overlooked voices and reshape the narrative of guitar heroes. The Philadelphia Inquirer captured her singular appeal best: “Foley has a killer voice, an impossibly alluring blend of sex and innocence to go with those blazing guitar chops.” Experiencing Sue Foley live at De La Luz Soundstage is a chance to witness a true master—an artist whose authority, soul, and fire resonate long after the final note fades.
