Substance Misuse and the Brain: Practical Solutions for Supporting Clients
Join us at this exciting conference in Oriel House Hotel to learn about the neurological and neuropsychological effects of substance misuse on the brain and practical and effective strategies to support clients through their recovery journey. Learn from people with personal and lived experience and from experts in the field of medicine, neurology and neuropsychology. This conference is open to all adults with an interest in the area, including professionals who provide services and supports to people with addiction difficulties and people with lived experience. Applicants must be over 18 years of age. Early booking is advised and the Learning goals are as follows:
Learning Goals:
1: Increased understanding of the human brain and the impact that alcohol and drugs have on the brain.
2: Improved understanding of how the neurological impact of alcohol and drugs, combined with a lack of knowledge and understanding on the part of professionals can result in access and engagement barriers / challenges between clients and professionals
3: Improved understanding of the common difficulties with access and engagement and how these can be understood / framed in the context of changes to the brain following alcohol and drug use
4: Increased understanding of practical and effective ways to modify service delivery and supports to improve outcomes for clients.
5: Insight, advice and guidance from people with lived experience of addiction to improve understanding of addiction and what approaches and values taken by professionals are helpful on the road to recovery.
