Please note: This is a three-part seminar, meeting on October 29th, November 5th, and November 12th.Register: https://visit.ncartmuseum.org/18075/20952
Why do we collect? What draws us to certain objects, images, or stories?
In this Study Hall Seminar, we'll examine the history, psychology, and cultural impact of collecting through the lens of the exhibition "We Belong Here: The Gutierrez Collection." Together, we'll consider how collecting reflects identity, preserves memory, and shapes public narratives. Through readings, discussion, and gallery walks, we'll trace how collections are built with intention, and how they can create a lasting sense of belonging.
This three-part course will be led by WSSU professor of Art History and Visual Studies, Lisandra Estevez, and will meet on Wednesday October 29th, November 5th, and November 12th from 6:00–8:00.
