Studio Vizcaya: Stitch

Step into the world of textile storytelling with "Studio Vizcaya: Stitch" on Saturday, July 13th from 6 - 9 pm EDT at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.

This vibrant evening showcases the culmination of a six-week community workshop series, where local artists and community members have woven together fabrics and stories to create stunning textile art.

• Community Creations on Display: Marvel at the arpilleras, a vibrant, multi-dimensional textile art pieces of Chilean origin. This collection of textile artworks will narrate personal stories of Miami, crafted by community members under the guidance of talented local artists.
• Live Fashion and Performance: Witness a unique fashion installation by Cayla Willie, featuring Miccosukee-inspired patchwork, and experience a dynamic mega-weaving performance led by artist Vanya Allen.
• Create Your Own Textile Piece: Participate in hands-on textile workshops and create your own piece of art to take home, adding your personal touch to the evening’s tapestry of stories.
• Refreshments for Purchase: Enjoy a selection of light refreshments available for purchase at The Cafe. Relax and savor your evening surrounded by the lush scenery and creative atmosphere of the gardens.

About Stitch Vizcaya: Textiles have long been used to tell stories. For Stitch Vizcaya, we've commissioned 3 artists to guide the community in making textiles to tell their own stories. The final pieces will be displayed in Vizcaya's gardens the evening of Saturday, July 13, 2024!

About Studio Vizcaya | Summer Art Sessions: Studio Vizcaya is a commission program that provides artists with the creative challenge to develop original, site-specific work in response to a historic site situated in the public realm. Studio Vizcaya was inspired by the dynamic, creative spirit that characterized Vizcaya’s inception one hundred years ago, and it preserves Vizcaya owner James Deering’s tradition as a patron of the arts. Additionally, Studio Vizcaya embeds Vizcaya’s commitment to shared community experiences through a process of co-creation.
