About this Event
Studio Practice is a monthly series of hands-on, practical art classes where students of all levels learn to create in varying media. This month, in partnership with Hope at Hand, art therapist Brooks Decker will guide students through a writing and painting experience based on therapeutic expression, in coordination with current exhibition .
You do not have to be a poet, artist, singer or dancer to express yourself as such. Working through thoughts and feelings creatively is not only beneficial to you as you process experiences, but also has the potential to help others connect with their thoughts and feelings, if you choose to share. Kara Walker's art embodies the intense and often difficult nature of Black History, while also challenging racist imagery by adopting it and creating something poignant, introspective, and fierce. Ultimately, Walker took pain and made it art.
