Create an abstract landscape painting with local artist Keith Doles in James Weldon Johnson Park.
About this Event

Join artist Keith Doles for an afternoon of abstract en plein air painting in James Weldon Johnson Park, right across from the museum. There, he will teach guests to create a dynamic abstract landscape composition, giving his advice on perspective and technical practices during the process.

Artists of all levels of experience are welcome!

Please note: we ask that you come prepared with tools you'd like to experiment with, flat and round brushes, acrylic paints (primary colors + neutrals), and a painting surface (we recommend an 8x10 in. or 9x12 in. size). MOCA is happy to provide the rest of what's needed.

Here's what we'll set up for you:

Easel

Palette

Wide fan-shaped palette knife

A cup of water and a painter's rag

Pencils

Keith Doles is an Abstract Expressionist painter and Florida native who graduated from the University of North Florida with a BFA in Graphic Design in 2001. Infrastructure is the underlying framework essential to make a society functional. The work in this series illustrates my personal infrastructure - physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual."

Doles’ work has been featured in exhibitions at the Ritz Theatre & LaVilla Museum, Haskell Gallery at Jacksonville International Airport, MOCA Jacksonville's Lab Gallery, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, and the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, FL.
