About this Event
Kate Hailey has a long history with portrait photography as well as film photography. In this 3-part workshop, she will deliver a presentation on techniques, lighting styles, and lighting setups, as well as an overview of the gear and tools used in studio portraiture. After the presentation, Kate and the students will work, hands-on with studio flash equipment.
Following this first session, students will be able to schedule time to utilize the event space as a studio and hold a practice session - either to finish their roll of film or shoot more (please note each ticket only provides 1 roll of film - Portra 400 - and 1 pre-purchased develope and scan of that roll, but attendees are welcome to shoot as much film as they have time for during these sessions)!
Finally we'll meet back in the event space where students will get to see 2 of their selected images printed and displayed for a class discussion and image review.
ATTENDEES WILL LEARN:
- To use Studio Flash Lighting with remotes
- Use a hand-held light meter (and metering cheats)
- Gain an understanding of considerations when using film with lighting
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR:
This workshop is for individuals who want to gain practical experience with off-camera lighting when working within the realm of portrait photography (especially film portraiture).
Attendees should have a basic understanding of ISO and film speeds, as well as aperture, and shutter speed, and how to change these on their cameras.
Attendees will finish this workshop with the confidence to work with these tools on their own.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Your film camera (either 35mm or medium format) with a portrait-length lens (a 50mm is a great option but most any lens will do - if you're unsure about your lens choice check out our Rental Department or reach out to marketing@prophotosupply with any questions)
- A tripod (optional)
If you don't have your own film camera, one can be rented from Pro Photo Supply HERE for an additional charge - information regarding a discount on rentals will be included in all order confirmation emails.
Students will all be provided with a roll of Portra 400 and processing envelopes for development and scanning services from Pro Photo Supply's Lab (a value of almost $40).
