Did you know that visiting a college is termed “demonstrated interest” by schools and is one of the admissions criteria used to determine an applicant’s acceptance? In fact, “demonstrated interest” is one piece of the admissions puzzle that can give a student up to a 40% chance of being admitted over other applicants.

The college admissions process is a tricky one to navigate. Give yourself the best opportunity to succeed by joining us on this day trip to Washinton DC to explore Howard University and learn some about the African American history and culture in the DC area.

In addition to this incredible experience, A-1 Tours offers an EXCLUSIVE partnership with University Seekers. University Seekers is a college preparatory service led by a local college admissions expert. With their guidance, they market your personal profile to your dream schools. They stay in touch with the admissions departments to ensure your application is highlighted, giving you a leg up on the competition.

Upon arrival, we will start with a campus walk at Howard University. Information session and campus walk. From here we head for lunch near U-street At Ben’s Chili Bowl - a landmark restaurant frequented both by police and protesters during the riots in DC in the late 60s. This will give you the perfect start for diving into The African American History and Culture of DC.

Along with your guide, you will explore U Street and other location-related activism of the civil and black rights movement in America. The Capital City for obvious reasons holds some of history’s most captivating moments in this matter. You will learn of culture and history past & present from the African American perspective.
Sites may include:

Emancipation Statue, Howard Theatre & and Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial along with visits to vibrant black communities. The tour will end with a visit to The National Museum of African American History & Culture.

The visit to the museum will be self-guided approx. 1- 1.5h stay.
From here you will board the coach, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride back home.
