Student-Led Community Action: A Hybrid Professional Development Workshop on Environmental Action CivicsReg link: https://www.rieea.org/student-led-community-action-pd/
Whether or not you joined the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA) and Earth Force in the spring, this workshop is for you! Together we’ll explore how you can use Environmental Action Civics (EAC) to empower young people to identify local environmental issues, investigate root causes, and take meaningful action in their communities.
Two-Part Professional Development Series:
PART ONE
Online Course (Sept 2–Oct 19, 2-3 hours at your own pace): Build foundational knowledge and complete a SOAR analysis of your practice.
PART TWO
In-Person Gathering (Oct 29, 5:30–7:00 PM): Join us at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Powder Mill Ledges in Smithfield. Optional pre-workshop hike at 4:30 PM!
At the in-person gathering, we’ll share insights from the online course, connect with colleagues across formal and informal education, and brainstorm new ways to bring student-led environmental action into classrooms and communities. Expect opportunities for networking, collaboration, and hands-on reflection—plus dinner and materials provided.
All attendees will receive a $25 participation stipend at the event to cover travel and/or child/elder care costs.
Participants will leave with:
+ Practical strategies to integrate student-led action into curricula and programs
+ A supportive community of practice for ongoing collaboration
+ Inspiration from peers and local partners working on place-based projects
Join us to connect, share ideas, and help grow a statewide movement for Environmental Action Civics in Rhode Island!
