About this Event
The research study is a collaboration between researchers from University of Toronto, University of Manitoba, Lakehead University, and the Simon Fraser University. The study entitled, “Indigenous Student Experiences Post TRC: Indigenous Requirement Courses in Teacher Education,” led by Dr. Jennifer Brant, from the University of Toronto, along with co-lead Dr. Frank Deer, from the University of Manitoba, is supported by an Insight Development Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and is grounded in Indigenous pedagogies and methodologies. Our work investigates the pedagogical implications and possibilities of IRCs as an effective response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action and commitments to Indigenization. This event will explore the topic of IRCs generally and the findings of our study specifically. Our research story calls upon faculties of education to foster Indigenous cultural safety and align with the ethical imperatives of reconciliatory education.
The evening will begin with an award ceremony celebrating Indigenous students from the Faculty of Education.
Paid parking will be available in the parkade just adjacent to the Faculty of Education. Free parking is available in the Education parking lot and in other parking lots nearby.
