32 speakers are installed below ground in 32 wells all around the city square of Solbjerg Plads on Frederiksberg, allowing musicians and sound artists to create multidimensional soundscapes on a multichannel sound system.
This year, Strøm has invited Pilous Tower to create a piece for the 32 Sound Wells (Lydbrøndene). And this year, the sounds will be truly underground:
Pilous Tower has been below ground, recording sounds from the newly constructed water reservoir at Vodroffsvej, gathering fragments for a multichannel sound piece that will reach surface level through the 32 sound wells.

Beneath Copenhagen, utility systems are supplying necessary infrastructure, but as an unnoticed byproduct, they constantly emit sound. Normally, we don’t get to enjoy the sounds of these intricate networks, but emphasizing and recomposing the sounds may reveal pleasing sonic qualities - and reflect the urban subconscious. “Noget vil Op” refines and processes the pure functionality of the networks, and examines if it can be appealing to the busy world upstairs.
ABOUT PILOUS TOWER
Pilous Tower is a new ambient noise project working with urban architecture in mind, as well as revolving the ambiguity of the tower in symbolism. Assuming that all towers will fall eventually, this project is destined to cease, too. So far, Pilous Tower is focusing on the infrastructure beneath its foundation.
