About this Event
This comprehensive, full-day training is crafted to empower adoptive, foster, kinship parents and professionals with valuable insights into the complexities of adoption/foster care/kinship caregiving. In the morning session, participants will delve into key adoption themes such as loss, identity, and rejection, gaining effective strategies for fostering openness and navigating relationships with birth families. Parents will also receive practical tools to communicate with their children about adoption in ways that are honest, supportive, and age-appropriate.
In the afternoon, the training will focus on understanding the effects of trauma on a child’s development and attachment, particularly for those impacted by adoption, foster care, and kinship care. Parents will learn evidence-based strategies grounded in a "relationship-first" parenting approach, equipping them to better support and nurture the emotional and psychological well-being of their children.
