USS KIDD Veterans Museum is pleased to invite you to Strong & Calm Warrior Yoga. Sessions are held the first Saturday of each month. Afterward, stay downtown for the monthly Arts Market and weekly Farmers Market.
The museum's yoga program is now entering its 10th year in 2025 and has received coverage in publications as far away as Canada and India! Instructor Brandi Hanson was recognized in 2020 by the Historic Naval Ships Association (HNSA) via a "Volunteer Spotlight," highlighting a volunteer who has contributed significantly to a member museum ship. HNSA's fleet includes over 188 member vessels located in 39 countries across five continents.
Join USS KIDD and Yoga with Brandi for our FREE monthly partnership yoga class. While designed for Veterans, Active Military, and First Responders, along with their supporters and families, ANYONE and EVERYONE may attend. This basic functional yoga class combines easy and accessible postures with relaxation techniques focused on breathing, stretching, strengthening and stability for all bodies, all abilities, all skeptics, and is adaptable to injuries. No previous yoga experience is required, so it’s perfect for beginners.
Research has shown that many forms of yoga and mindfulness can not only improve physical health and healing but can possibly reduce the effects of PTSD, anxiety, addictions, insomnia, and other mental conditions in addition to increasing mindfulness, flexibility, balance, mobility, and strength.
Everyone is encouraged to try this yoga practice in our beautiful, private, safe, non-intimidating museum overlooking the Mississippi River and USS KIDD with our caring, knowledgeable instructor, Brandi Hanson. Please bring your own yoga mat. Admission is FREE and open to the public.
USS KIDD, a National Historic Landmark, is a Fletcher-class destroyer commissioned in 1943. She served with distinction and survived a Kamikaze hit in 1945. Also, she saw duty during the Korean Conflict and remained in service until 1964.
The Museum houses the Louisiana Veterans Hall of Honor, a collection of ship models, and additional artifacts and memorabilia from USS KIDD. Traveling exhibits rotate throughout the year.
USS KIDD Veterans Museum is located on River Road in Downtown Baton Rouge and is open daily, with a few holiday exceptions. Admission is charged. For more information call 225-342-1942 or visit the website at www.usskidd.com.
