A Social Stroll from Abbey Park to Abbey Pumping Station for Railway Day!
Saturday 6 July at 11.30am
Starting outside the cafe in Abbey Park.
About 30-minutes stroll each-way. Steady pace. Accessible.
For those who enjoy stretching their legs, there is an optional walk extension to Ellis Meadows - decide on the day!
You'll have up to 2 hours' free time at Abbey Pumping Station (free entry).
Allow 3 hours in total for the walks and the visit, returning to Abbey Park by 2.30pm. Alternatively, stay longer, and return independently.
Join us for an easy 30-minute stroll via the scenic riverside path to Abbey Pumping Station, where there's lots to see and do (see below)! Bring your own refreshments , picnic outside and enjoy relaxing in the museum grounds. Toilets available.

What's on...
- (11.30-4pm) - take a ride on Leonard the Steam Locomotive (50p/ride, cash only) and check out the Meccano displays.
- Check out the Mealbarrow Extravaganza (12noon-3pm) - showcasing food grown in wheelbarrows by Leicester school children, for the Grow Your Own Grub competition. Vote for your favourite! Plus - visit the new electric Book Bus, enjoy free craft activities, story-telling and more.
- (free entry). Explore the exhibits about the history of science, industry, transport, health and hygiene.
Booking
Walks are free to attend but please book as numbers are limited. Adults, please book via Eventbrite or phone 0116 373 7589 (phone line is Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm, not at weekends or bank holidays). Booking is not required for children, but children must be accompanied by an adult.
If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone during office hours so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.

New Walkers
If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form in advance of the walk online or by phone. You will receive an email with a link to the online form in the days leading up to the event. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).
Dress for the weather
Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. You will not need any special clothing or equipment. We recommend the following:
• Comfortable sturdy footwear
• Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
• On cooler days wear appropriate layers (hat, scarf, gloves) and a coat/jacket. On warmer days a hat and sunscreen are recommended.
• Please bring a bottle of water with you, especially during the warmer months.
Group size
Please book your place – this helps us to keep our group sizes manageable.
