About this Event
For Stress Awareness Month, we would like to talk to you about what stress actually is, how it can impact our brains as we age, and how we can talk about it in more helpful ways.
We also really need your help!
We need feedback on the ways we carry out studies to look at ageing brain health, especially studies which look at how ‘where’ we live and ‘how’ we live to see whether our brains develop processing and memory problems or not. It is especially important to get feedback from those who are usually not well represented in studies and are marginalised or overlooked in society.
To say thank you for your feedback, you will receive a meal voucher to spend at Jabulani (African Delight or Elsie’s Kitchen).
*We will be at Jabulani from 2pm, if you wish to drop in and talk without the crowd

Workshop Insights: Understanding Stress
Start Time: 4:30 PM
Speaker: Nicole Thomas, PhD
Focus: A deep dive into the essence of stress — what it truly means, how it's a significant part of our lives, and its profound effect on ageing and brain health. Stress is often tagged as a vague term, and advice like "just relax" is easier said than done. However, chronic stress is not only a lifestyle issue but a potential risk factor for dementia. Many communities have resigned to the belief that stress-induced memory issues are an inevitable part of ageing. This workshop aims to challenge such notions, providing clarity, understanding, and practical strategies to manage and mitigate the effects of stress on our health.
This event is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering an environment of belonging, inclusion, and well-being. It aligns with our core values of empowering communities with the knowledge to lead healthier, more informed lifestyles. Don't miss this chance to engage with health professionals, learn from leading researchers, and take a proactive step towards understanding and managing stress for a healthier future.
