Speaker: Robert Pulver, Chief, Criminal Law and Judicial Advisory Service at the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations
Abstract: Robert Pulver will discuss the difficult and complex legal and ethical issues that arise in the numerous United Nations Peacekeeping Operations as the UN tries to preserve the rule of law in war torn areas. Because the Peacekeeping Operations work with the parties in power, the peacekeepers often find themselves having to make difficult and uneasy decisions.
Bio: Robert Pulver directs the work of the UN/DPKO Criminal Law and Judicial Advisory Service. He advises senior UN leadership on rule of law issues and pursues policy advocacy with UN Member States. Mr. Pulver also supervises the development of policy, guidance, lessons learned and training materials. Finally, he oversees the work of UN rule of law programs with over 500 personnel throughout the globe, including in Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Darfur, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Liberia, Mali, and South Sudan.
